India lift the U19 world cup

Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated India on their historic victory in the ICC U19 World Cup 2022 in Antigua on Sunday. The Yash Dhull-led squad won the U19 Cricket World Cup for the seventh time after defeating England by four wickets in the final, especially to an outstanding all-around performance by Chandigarh's Raj Angad Bawa.

PM Modi expressed his pride in India's young cricketers, stating that the Indian colts' outstanding performance at the highest level demonstrates that Indian cricket's future is in safe and capable hands.

"I am ecstatic about our young cricketers. The Indian team should be congratulated for winning the ICC U19 World Cup. They've shown incredible perseverance throughout the competition.

Bawa excelled with the bat, bowling a five-wicket haul (5/31) to help India dismiss England for 189, then striking a crucial 35 down the order to help India reach the 190-run mark with 2.2 overs to spare.

It was a remarkable achievement for India, who had previously won the tournament in 2000, 2008, 2012, and 2018, as they were forced to field a playing XI when several players caught COVID-19 just hours before their match against Ireland.

The BCCI was forced to bring in precautionary reinforcements when five members of the squad, including captain Yash Dhull and his deputy Shaik Rasheed, missed both the Ireland and Uganda matches.

After winning the toss, England chose to bat but was bowled out for 189 in 44.5 overs, with pacers Bawa (5/31 in 9.5 overs) and Ravi Kumar (4/34 in 9 overs) sharing the spoils.

In the 25th over, England was down to 91 for seven, but James Rew single-handedly revitalized their innings with a 116-ball 95 to assist his team in getting close to 200.
