Cyberattacks wreak havoc on Ukraine

Ukraine recently revealed that the country's defence ministry, armed forces, and two banks had been hacked.

According to a statement released by the Ukrainian Centre for Strategic Communications and Information Security, which is part of the culture ministry, the culprit may have Russian roots.

"It is not excluded out that the attacker utilised dirty tactics," it stated, "since its aggressive plans aren't working out on a broad scale."

The Ukrainian defence ministry's website was down for maintenance, according to a statement on the home page. The ministry said on Twitter that its website had been hacked and that it was trying to restore access.

Since Russia began massing more than 100,000 troops near the border, Kyiv has accused Moscow for similar actions in the past.

The new attack came just hours after Russia hinted that the Ukrainian issue might be de-escalated, with President Vladimir Putin declaring that his country does not want conflict.

The Russian government confirmed the withdrawal of some troops from Ukraine's borders, but emphasised that the action was planned and that Russia would continue to transfer troops across the nation if needed.

In an odd coincidence, US intelligence had anticipated a cyber strikes ahead of Russia's invasion of Ukraine on February 16.

President Joe Biden is said to have told allies over the phone that Russia will begin a violent assault on Ukraine as early as February 16, according to POLITICO.

According to reports, he claimed that a volley of missile strikes and cyber attacks will precede the invasion.
