We have a responsibility to this jersey, and we will fight until the last end: Ivan Vukomanovic

As they prepare for NorthEast United FC in match 81 of the Hero Indian Super League (ISL) 2021-22 at Tilak Maidan Stadium, Vasco da Gama on Friday, Kerala Blasters FC head coach Ivan Vukomanovic noted that the players' health is the most crucial factor as the team recovers from Covid-19.

With 20 points from 12 games, the Kerala Blasters sit in third place in the league rankings. They are tied on points with Bengaluru FC, who are in fourth place and a few points behind Jamshedpur FC, who are in second place.

Kerala Blasters FC's last match finished in a 1-0 defeat to Bengaluru FC. It put an end to KBFC's 10-match winning streak.

Coach Vukomanovic addressed the media during the official pre-match news conference ahead of Kerala Blasters FC's match against NorthEast United FC.

The following are excerpts from Vukomanovic's press conference.

  1. You have had the support of your fans throughout this difficult time. What do you want to say to them?

They've been fantastic from the beginning, supporting us. We aimed to instill a strong mentality and sense of belonging in the players right from the start of the season. Whether you're leading or down in a game, we'll fight till the end. We have a responsibility to this garment. That's the attitude we've taken, and we'd like to preserve it.

  1. You had said before the BFC game that you might not have enough players for a football game, yet you ended up playing your best starting eleven. Was that a calculated move?

No, we didn't find out till the final game. Many of the players began practicing two days before the game. When you leave the room after 15 days, you have no idea how your body will react. From our end, we want to look after the players. We are not ready to take any chances.

  1. What are your opinions on Kerala Blasters FC playing seven matches in 30 days?

It won't just be a problem for us. Every squad, I believe, is in the same condition. At this season of year, muscle injuries are common. We must take care of the players. We'll most likely rotate them at some point. That's the way things are. In February, we want to avoid injury as much as possible.
