CPI expresses displeasure with the change to the LokAyukta and questions its necessity

Trivandrum: The CPI has expressed its discontent with the LDF government's LokAyukta amending ordinance, which has sparked controversy. According to CPI Assistant Secretary Prakash Babu, the issue of changing a 22-year-old law was not considered inside the front. He believes it is not politically correct to amend the LokAyukta Act because of the fear of a few. He stated that not discussing the problem with the party's front was a grave mistake.

"The ordinance should have been presented to the Assembly following consultation with the LDF members who were concerned. All MLAs should have been given the opportunity to meet with their political parties and express their views before proposing revisions to an act that had already been passed by the Assembly, "Prakash Babu said.

He also stated that the CPI believes it is improper to introduce revisions to an act without adequate discussion, even in the cabinet.

Meanwhile, CPM State Secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan claims that requesting the Governor sign such an act when the Assembly is not in session is not unconstitutional.

The CPI, on the other hand, questions the need for an ordinance to amend the LokAyukta Act.

After extensive debate in the Assembly, the LokAyukta Act was passed in 1996-2001. The CPI has frequently stated that the government should have undertaken adequate negotiations before introducing the amended ordinance.
