Government appeal to youths for a second shot

Over 786,000 children aged 15 to 18 in Delhi, out of a total population of 1.01 million, had received their first immunization dosage. The state government is now striving to ensure that roughly 800,000 children aged 15 to 18 in the national capital receive their second dose of the Covid-19 vaccination within the prescribed time frame, according to authorities familiar with the situation.




According to a senior official with the Delhi government's health department, 204,913 youngsters in the affected group will be eligible for the second vaccine dosage in the first week of February. Another 300,000 teens will be eligible for their second injection the following week, according to the official.


According to government estimates, the Capital has over 1.01 million youngsters between the ages of 15 and 18. According to the CoWin dashboard, 786,611 of them have gotten their first immunisation dosage.


The official explained, "The date for their second dose displays on the Co-Win portal, but we will also send out reminder messages to their registered mobile numbers."

According to data from the central government's Co-Win dashboard, Delhi administered nearly 200,000 doses of the Covid-19 vaccine between January 3 and January 7, when vaccinations for this age group began.


302,553 eligible teenagers received their first doses between January 8 and 14, while 219,660 youngsters received their immunisation shots the following week. The city gave 47,261 first doses to youngsters in this age range between January 22 and January 27.


Children between the ages of 15 and 18 are being given doses of Bharat Biotech's Covaxin, a two-dose vaccination, across the country, with the second injection given four to six weeks following the first.


District administrations are also attempting to reach out to youngsters who have not yet been vaccinated, according to officials.


"We're attempting to reach out to youngsters in schools, homeless children, street vendors, and other children who aren't listed in government records," said an official from the east Delhi area.
