SC refuses to relax reservation requirements for SCs and STs in promotion
The Supreme Court has declined to relax the requirements for reservations in government posts for Scheduled Castes (SCs) and Scheduled Tribes (STs).
The Supreme Court stated that before giving reservation in promotion to SC/ST personnel, state governments should collect quantifiable evidence, and that it cannot set any new standards after the Constitution Bench's decision.
According to the Supreme Court, "The state is required to acquire quantifiable data on the representation of SC/STs. Reservation data must be gathered based on vacancies in specific cadres. States are required to perform a review in order to provide reservations."
