Indian Super League: Dani Chukwu's lone goal gives Jamshedpur a 1-0 victory over FC Goa

With a lone goal triumph in an Indian Super League (ISL) encounter on Friday, Jamshedpur FC dealt FC Goa a major setback in their bid for a play-off berth. Owen Coyle's side moved up to second place in the league rankings, but Derrick Pereira's side remained in ninth place after four games without a win. The lone goal came from Daniel Chima Chukwu (49th minute), who scored in his first appearance for Jamshedpur since joining in the January transfer window. Chukwu's left-footed attempt went narrowly wide off the mark to start the match.

Ivan Gonzalez, on the other hand, hit the underside of the crossbar with a header. Edu Bedia got the rebound, but TP Rehenesh saved his hard attempt well. The Gaurs attempted further attacks on the JFC defence, but they were unsuccessful.

To say the least, the first half was a brawl, with Alex Lima, Anwar Ali, and Daniel Chukwu each receiving three yellow cards.

Four minutes of extra time were added due to injuries and stoppages, but neither team was able to break through the defences and score the game's first goal.

JFC pushed for a goal in the second half, and they scored one through rookie Chukwu, whose shot was too powerful for Naveen Kumar.

Despite having both hands on the ball, the keeper was unable to prevent it from slipping into the back of the net.

Ali came close to tying the game for the Gaurs after hitting the crossbar for the second time just after the hour mark, but the ball did not go in.

With a left-footed shot in the 80th minute, Airan Cabrera hit the crossbar for the third time for FC Goa.

Pereira, the coach of FC Goa, made a slew of substitutions in order to alter the game's outcome. Despite creating numerous chances, they were unable to equalise as Coyle's men defended their lead with vigour and secured the three points.

FC Goa will play an ambitious Odisha FC at Bambolim on Tuesday, while Jamshedpur FC will face an in-form Bengaluru FC in the same venue on Saturday.
