MediaOne, a Malayalam news station, has been shut down by the Centre | Hot News

MediaOne has been barred for the second time. On grounds of breaking the Cable Television Networks Act 1998 while reporting on rioting in north-east Delhi, the Centre placed a 48-hour suspension on the station in March 2020.

The Information and Broadcasting Ministry halted the broadcast of Malayalam news station 'MediaOne' on Monday, claiming "security concerns." The Jamat-e-Islami-controlled channel went off the air at midday on Monday.

Its editor, Pramod Raman, went on television in the afternoon to announce the ministry's decision and to say that a legal team had been asked to gather more information. "According to the ministry, the prohibition was imposed for security grounds. We haven't received any information yet. "We hope that justice will triumph and that we will be able to begin broadcasting as soon as possible," he said. The move was criticised by many journalistic organisations as well as the opposition Congress.

"This is an undemocratic action." The reason for the suspension of transmission was likewise not revealed to the channel. This is a blatant disregard for natural justice. "It should be condemned by all democratic forces," said opposition leader V D Satheesan.

MediaOne has been barred for the second time. On grounds of breaking the Cable Television Networks Act 1998 while reporting on rioting in north-east Delhi, the Centre placed a 48-hour suspension on the station in March 2020. However, sources familiar with the current situation claim that security clearance was rejected when the station failed to renew its ten-year-old licence. Uplinking and downlinking, according to I&B standards, require security authorization from the Home Ministry, according to the official. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has yet to issue a statement.
