Legendary Lata Mangeshkar, the legendary singer, died on Sunday at the age of 92.

On January 8, she was hospitalised to Mumbai's Breach Candy hospital after being diagnosed with COVID-19 and pneumonia.

Despite recovering from COVID, the star singer was placed on ventilator support on Saturday when her condition deteriorated.


Mangeshkar was an Indian playback singer and occasional music composer most renowned for her sweet voice, which earned her the nickname "Nightingale of India."





She began her career at the age of 13 in 1942, when she was born on September 28, 1929. Over the course of her seven-decade career, the melody queen recorded over a thousand Hindi film songs. She had sang songs in around thirty-six Indian regional languages as well as other languages.


She was awarded the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian honour, in 2001 in recognition of her contributions to the country. She is only the second vocalist to receive this honour, after MS Subbulakshmi.

She's also won three National Film Awards, among a slew of other accolades over the course of her career. Some of her most famous songs include 'Aye Mere Vatan Ke Logon,' 'Babul Pyare,' and 'Lag Ja Gale Se Phir,' among others.
