Sukumara Kurup, dressed up as Swami, found in Gujarat

Following a complaint from a Pathanamthitta resident who claimed to have spotted Kurup on a travel blog, crime branch officials have launched an investigation to find the infamous fugitive Sukumara Kurup.

Renzi Ismail, the manager of a Pathanamthitta beverage shop, told police that he spotted a picture of Sukumara Kurup dressed as a Swami on a travel site. The current investigation is based on Renzi's allegation, which he also passed on to the Chief Minister.

Renzi Ismail's statement was recorded by the crime branch team who arrived in Pathanamthitta on Monday. Swami Sankara Giri met Renzi, a former instructor, at an ashram in Gujarat. Later, when I saw Sukumara Kurup's images in the newspapers, I suspected the Swami was Kurup, he claimed.

He went on to say that he had informed the authorities. However, no significant steps were taken. Renzi filed a complaint after seeing a Haridwar tourist blog in December. A probe will also be expanded to other states.
